In this illustrated lecture\, art historian Brenda Edgar will take a broad view of the history of divine personifications of heavenly bodies. The orbs in our sky were among our very first gods and goddesses; before we “understood” them\, we knew them. Learn the names\, backstories\, and iconography of many Solar\, Lunar\, and planetary deities from diverse cultures spanning six continents\, and look for patterns and anomalies in their characteristics\, behaviors\, and gender identities.
