Art in Autumn: Faces of the World - Mask Making & Culture

Uncover the stories behind some of the world’s most iconic and expressive art forms. In this cultural arts experience for all ages, participants will explore how masks are used across the globe in celebrations, rituals, performances, and storytelling. From the ancestral symbolism of African tribal masks to the theatrical flair of Japanese Noh, this program highlights the meaning and magic behind the masks.

After a brief cultural introduction and discussion, students will create their own symbolic mask inspired by a chosen culture or personal theme such as emotion, identity, or animal spirit. Using a variety of crafting materials like feathers, sequins, and paint, participants will design a one-of-a-kind piece that blends creativity with cultural understanding.

Perfect for elementary-age kids and up, this activity encourages self-expression, cultural appreciation, and hands-on fun!
