March 9 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Meet & Make: Stamp Carving and Printmaking

Join us at the Carnegie Library Cultural Arts Center for a four-week stamp carving & printmaking series presented by local artist and art educator Jessica Hartman. This four-week hands-on class will dive into exploration of pattern, symbolism, and personal identity through stamp carving and printmaking. Participants will design and carve a custom stamp, experiment with layered printing on paper, and finish by creating wearable art on fabric.

Week 1 (March 9th): Develop a bold, carveable design and transfer it onto your block while learning about positive and negative space.

Week 2 (March 16th): Safely carve your stamp using professional tools and refine your image through test prints.

Week 3 (March 23rd): Explore repetition, ink control, and layered color printing on paper, including collaborative options.

Week 4 (March 30th): Print your design onto fabric, tote bags, shirts, denim, and more and learn how to heat-set your work as needed for lasting wear.

***Patrons must be comfortable handling carving equipment, as tools used in this class are sharp and require focused attention and safe handling practices.***

All basic materials are provided. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own fabric items (t-shirts, jeans, tote bags, jackets, etc.) for the final wearable printing session.

This series is beginner-friendly but engaging for all skill levels. Participants will leave with a reusable carved stamp, original prints, and a wearable piece of art.
