June 16 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
All About Art: Underground Railroad, Not A Subway

Celebrate Juneteenth at the Cultural Arts Center with a special “All About Art” program that brings history to life through storytelling and creativity. Participants will watch a featured episode of Craft in America highlighting a powerful puppet performance by artist and educator Dr. Schroeder Cherry, which explores the story of the Underground Railroad. After the screening, we’ll engage in a guided discussion about freedom, resilience, and progress, connecting events from the Underground Railroad and the Emancipation Proclamation to the Children’s Civil Rights Crusade of 1963.

The program continues with a hands-on puppet-making workshop where participants will design and create their own hand puppets inspired by the themes and stories explored in the film. Blending art, history, and creativity, this interactive experience encourages self-expression and meaningful conversations for learners of all ages. Registration is recommended, but not required.
